Pawan is an assistant professor in the Center for Earth Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Previously, he was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Mathematics at MIT. He finished his Ph.D. program in Geophysics at Delft University of Technology (TUDelft), The Netherlands. In 2012, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Geophysics from the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, India.
